They, too, sit on the couch with acoustic guitars and a laptop to learn new songs they like! Watch Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood play “The Rip” by Portishead.
I’ve written here before about how into Portishead I was around 1997-98. Dummy had a huge impact on me. Their second album I found to be a little less remarkable, but still very good, and still entirely unique. No other band can do what they do.
I’m still in the very early stages of my relationship with Third. My older brother– the one who got me into Portishead to begin with– has said that there’s something about the album he really likes, but he’s still sort of unclear on how he feels about it and his relationship to it, because it is just so different than the first two.
I’d have to say I agree with his assessment 100%. But there’s no ambiguity about my feelings for the song Thom and Jonny cover above. I freaking love it. It’s hands-down my favorite track on the album so far, though as I said, this is a relationship that will only grow over time.
Does Guitar Hero count??
Mmmmmm…. yes.
