So one thing I’ll do over and over again here is post what I’ll call a 3 Song Shuffle. I’ll set my iPod on shuffle songs for all artists, and write about the first three that come up. It’ll be the honest-to-God truth of what comes up, no cheating.
Sound familiar? Yeah, I stole the idea. Big time. Sue me.
“Broken Chairs” by Built to Spill
Great. My first song on my first 3 song shuffle post and it’s one I don’t know. This song’s totally new to me. I don’t know much about Built to Spill. My friend Jonny tried to get me to listen to their Live disc a while ago, and I never really got into it. This song is 8 minutes 40 seconds long and so far is much more laid back than I expect a Built to Spill song to be… wait, what’s this? Whistling? Fantastic. I like this song. OK, this recurring shuffle post is a great idea.
“We Never Change” by Coldplay
I mean, c’mon… I can’t not love these guys, no matter how hard I try. Every single time they pop up on shuffle it’s a treat. Every time. They’re what you go to if you’re looking for music that you know will be sure to get some visceral reaction from you.
“Young Blood” by The Coasters
Oh, hell yeah. This is off the greatest box set of all time: Atlantic Rhythm & Blues: 1947-1974. This is my first time hearing this song. It’s a gift. A Lolita-esque tune. Dirty and bad and sweet. Good song.
One shuffle post complete and no embarassments yet. I’d knock wood, but it’s pointless. My iPod is loaded with guilty pleasures. Just don’t knock my taste when Thrid Eye Blind pops up.
